Dublin roofers who fix the problem properly

SA Roofing is a roofing contractor based on Cabra Road in Dublin 7, working across Dublin and the surrounding area within a radius of roughly 50 km. For more than 7 years we have been repairing leaks, replacing slipped and broken slates and tiles, laying felt and torch-on flat roofs, and fitting uPVC guttering, fascia and soffits for householders, landlords and commercial clients.

Dublin roofs take a lot of punishment. Wind-driven rain off the Atlantic, months of damp weather that keep moss growing on north-facing slopes, and housing stock that ranges from Victorian slate terraces to 1970s concrete-tile semis and modern extensions with flat roofs all mean that no two jobs are quite the same. We look at the whole roof, find the cause of the problem rather than the symptom, and explain what we found in plain language before any work starts.

We supply and fit all materials ourselves, we are fully insured, and every quote is free. Our office hours are Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, and our emergency roof repair service runs 24/7 for leaks, storm damage and fallen tiles that cannot wait. If you want to understand a problem before you call, our roofing advice for Dublin homeowners covers leaks, flat roofs, gutters and costs.

What each service involves

Our work falls into the six services below. Each one has its own page with more detail on what the work involves, the materials we use and the questions people usually ask about it. You can also see everything on one page on our roofing services in Dublin overview.

Roof repairs

Leaks, slipped or cracked slates, broken concrete tiles, loose ridge tiles, worn lead flashing and failed mortar on hips and ridges. We trace where the water is actually getting in, which is often some distance from the stain on your ceiling, and repair it with matching materials. See our roof repairs in Dublin page.

Emergency roof repairs

When a storm lifts tiles, opens a hole in a flat roof or sends water through a ceiling, we provide a 24/7 emergency service to make the roof safe and watertight, followed by a permanent repair. Read more about emergency roof repairs.

Flat roofs

Installation, repair and replacement of felt and torch-on flat roofs on extensions, garages, dormers, porches and commercial buildings. We will tell you honestly whether a patch repair will last or whether the roof has reached the end of its life. Find out more about flat roofing.

Guttering

Supply and fitting of uPVC gutters and downpipes, repairs to leaking joints and sagging runs, full replacements and gutter cleaning to clear leaves, moss and debris. Visit our gutter repairs and guttering page, or read about our gutter cleaning service.

Fascia and soffits

Replacement of rotten timber fascia boards and soffits with low-maintenance uPVC, along with repairs to existing uPVC roofline. Details are on our fascia and soffits page.

All roof types

We work on pitched, slate, tiled and flat roofs, on houses, apartments, rental properties and commercial premises, and we can usually deal with the roof, the gutters and the roofline in one visit.

How to choose a roofer in Dublin

Most people only need a roofer every few years, so it is hard to know who to trust. Recommendations from neighbours and online reviews help, but a few practical checks tell you more about how a job is likely to go. These are the checks we would make if we were hiring someone to work on our own house.

  • Ask for proof of insurance. Anyone working at height on your property should carry public liability insurance, and a reputable contractor will show you the details before work starts. If a dropped slate damages your car or a neighbour's conservatory, insurance is what covers it.
  • Get the quote in writing, after an inspection. A price given over the phone or from the driveway is a guess. A proper quote comes after someone has looked at the roof, from the attic as well as outside where possible, and sets out what will be done, which materials will be used and whether scaffolding is included, so two quotes can be compared like for like.
  • Ask what is causing the problem as well as what it will cost. A good roofer can explain why the roof is leaking. If one contractor says a few slates need refixing and another says the whole roof needs replacing, ask each of them to explain their reasoning and show you photos of what they saw.
  • Check previous work and a real address. Ask for photos of similar jobs, or the address of a recent one you can look at from the street, and check that the business has a fixed local address and a landline as well as a mobile number. A contractor with a fixed base is easier to get back to if anything needs attention later.
  • Be wary of door-to-door offers. After a big storm, cold callers go from house to house offering to fix roofs that day for cash, often after pointing out damage you cannot see from the ground. Turn them down politely. A genuine roofer will give you a written quote and will not ask for full payment in cash before the work is done.

Common questions are answered below. If yours is not covered, call us on 085 172 1435 or send a WhatsApp.

How it works

Every job follows the same simple process, from the first phone call to the final check.

  1. Get in touch

Call us on 085 172 1435 or 01 685 3713, send a WhatsApp, or use the enquiry form. Photos of the problem, taken safely from the ground or from inside the attic, are very helpful at this stage.

  2. Talk through the problem

We ask a few questions about what you have noticed, when it started, the age and type of the roof, and whether the problem gets worse in particular weather. This helps us judge how urgent it is and what we need to bring.

  3. Inspection and free quote

We inspect the roof, gutters and roofline, find the cause of the problem, and explain what needs to be done. You then get a free, no-obligation quote for the work so you can decide without pressure.

  4. The work is carried out

Once you are happy to go ahead, we agree a date, supply all the materials and complete the work. If we uncover anything unexpected once the roof is opened up, we stop and talk to you before doing any extra work.

  5. Final check with you

When the job is finished we clear away the old materials and go over the completed work with you, so you know exactly what was done and how to keep an eye on the roof from here on.

Frequently asked questions

What areas of Dublin do you cover?

We cover all of Dublin city and county and the surrounding area within roughly 50 km, including parts of Kildare and Wicklow. We are based in Cabra, Dublin 7. If you are unsure whether you are in our area, call or WhatsApp us with your Eircode.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. Every quote is free and comes with no obligation. For most jobs we need to inspect the roof first so that the quote reflects the actual problem and not a guess.

Do you offer an emergency roof repair service?

Yes. Our emergency roof repair service runs 24/7 for leaks, storm damage and fallen tiles or slates. Call 085 172 1435 and explain what has happened so we can advise you on keeping the property safe until we arrive.

Are you insured?

Yes, SA Roofing is fully insured. If you need to see our insurance details before work starts, ask us when we quote.

How can you tell a good roofer?

A good roofer inspects before pricing, explains what is wrong and why, gives a written quote that lists the work and materials, and is insured. Be wary of anyone who knocks on the door to say they noticed a problem, asks for cash up front or pushes for a decision on the day.

What types of roof do you work on?

We work on pitched, slate, tiled and flat roofs. That covers natural slate on older Dublin houses, concrete tiles on most post-war homes, clay tiles on some 1930s houses, and felt and torch-on systems on extensions, garages and commercial flat roofs.

What are your opening hours?

Our office hours are Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, and we are closed on Sundays. The emergency roof repair service is available 24/7.
